Chris Algieri said in a Manny Pacquiao next fight news that he will look to make history in his upcoming fight against the Filipino boxing icon on November 22 at the Venetian Resort in Macau, China.
Algieri, who is coming off a breakout win against Ruslan Provodnikov in their World Boxing Organization light welterweight title fight in June, said that his training is going well and he feels ready to make history.
"Training is going great so far," Algieri said via CBS New York. "A couple of weeks from now we'll be headed to China and getting ready to make some history."
However, Algieri, who holds a perfect 20-0 record with eight wins by knockouts, knows that it will be easier said than done because he will be going up against Pacquiao, who is regarded as one the best fighters in history.
Algieri said in the Manny Pacquiao next fight news that the reigning pound-for-pound king's style is very hard to read and the reigning WBO welterweight champion's experience in big fights would be a great factor.
"There's nobody in the world like Manny Pacquiao," Algieri said. "He's got a very awkward style and he brings a lot of speed and power. The experience level is definitely something to think about and is very difficult to prepare for."
But while he knows that he will have a tall mountain to climb, Algieri is still confident that he has what it takes to put Long Island, New York on the boxing map in November.
"Long Island is not really looked at as a place where a lot of top quality or world class boxers are coming out of," Algieri said in the Manny Pacquiao next fight update. "We have a lot of talent in this relatively small island and I think we're going to put a little more of a name on the map for Long Island."
Pacquiao, who is coming off two straight convincing wins against Brandon Rios and Timothy Bradley, will be a heavy favorite to win against Algieri. And if he successfully defends his title next month, Floyd Mayweather could be next for him as Floyd Sr. indicated that the reigning pound-for-pound king is now ready to face 'Pacman.'
"I'm pretty sure he's gonna get Pacquiao," Mayweather Sr. told Fighthype. "It's gonna happen. That fight's gonna happen. Trust me. That fight's definitely gonna happen. It's a fight for the world, man, right there."
