Manny Pacquiao next fight news indicated that the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion is not expecting an easy win against Chris Algieri, but he believes that his experience will be a huge factor.
In an interview with The Guardian, Pacquiao, who will defend his title on November 22 in Macau, admitted that Algieri poses threat to him because of his size, but he is quite convinced that he still has a huge advantage against his challenger.
"It's not the first time I fight a guy like him - all action, from all angles," Pacquiao said. "It's been a while since I fought a guy as tall as him [5ft 10in]. This is fun. My advantage is my experience. I have to use that. I believe he is the sort of opponent who will make a good fight."
Most fans and boxing experts expect Pacquiao to run away with an easy victory against Algieri, who is the reigning WBO light welterweight champion.
Algieri is a relatively unknown fighter in the world boxing circuit before scoring a split decision win against Ruslan Provodnikov in June, which immediately gave him a shot against Pacquiao.
ESPN boxing analyst Teddy Atlas had a different take on the Pacquiao-Algieri fight, saying that Huntington, New York native has a good shot against the Filipino boxing icon, questioning how focused Pacquiao is for his title defense.
"I don't think it's a mismatch," Atlas said in a Manny Pacquiao next fight news update. "You don't know what Pacquiao's going to be when he gets in the ring. He's got a lot of distractions. He's got a lot of miles on the odometer. He's made a lot of money and he's got a lot of problems supposedly. We don't know what he's going to be when he gets in that ring."
Atlas also added that while Pacquiao has scored convincing victories in his last two fights, the 35-year-old Filipino is not the same fighter as he was before.
"I don't see Pacquiao as being the real aggressive seek and destroy guy he used to be," Atlas added in the Manny Pacquiao next fight update. "He leaves you alone now, he's not the in and out Pacquiao. He doesn't fight like he's all over you. He gives you more opportunities for being there and gives you opportunities to do things."
