Chris Algieri's camp said that the unbeaten champion will be in the best shape of his career, but Freddie Roach said in a Manny Pacquiao next fight news that "Pacman" will be too much for his next opponent.
Keith Trimble, Algieri's trainer, said in a recent interview with Rich Mazon of PhilBoxing that the Huntington, New York native is already in good shape after undergoing sparring sessions over the past two weeks.
"It's great. He is right on point. He is in shape like usual. He is fast, strong. He is good to go," Trimble said.
However, Roach said in an interview with ABS-CBN News that Algieri has no chance against Pacquiao, saying that the Filipino boxing icon belongs to a different level.
"I think Manny is gonna be way too much for him," Roach said in the Manny Pacquiao next fight news. "I think Manny can make (the fight) as hard or as easy as he wants to make it."
Roach said that Algieri is a good fighter based from what he saw during his fight against Ruslan Provodnikov in June, but the Hall of Fame trainer said that the 30-year-old is biting more than he can chew.
"He's got a good jab, he's left handed, he's got a good jab and a good hook," Roach said of Algieri. "His right hand is not so good. I honestly think he's in over his head a little bit."
And once Pacquiao successfully defends his World Boxing Organization welterweight title against Algieri on November 22 in Macau, Roach said that he wants the eight-division champion to move down in weight to face Danny Garcia.
Roach said that Garcia, the reigning World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association junior welterweight champion, is a good opponent for Pacquiao, but he is quite sure that a Pacquiao-Garcia fight will not be finalized because of promotional differences.
"Al Haymon will not fight Manny Pacquiao, guarantee that," Roach said in a Manny Pacquiao next fight news on Rappler. "Because they're scared, all of them. His lead guy all the way down. It's not going to happen. All of the excuses about they don't like Bob Arum; it's just excuses."
