Chris Algieri will be a huge underdog in the biggest fight of his career, but boxing experts said in Manny Pacquiao next fight news that the unbeaten champion has a shot against Pacquiao.
Algieri, who is coming off the biggest win of his career when he scored a split decision win against Ruslan Provodnikov in their World Boxing Organization light welterweight title fight, will face Pacquiao on Nov. 22 in Macau, China.
Most boxing analyst and fans are convinced that Pacquiao will cruise to an easy victory, but Star Boxing match maker Ron Katz believes that Algieri has a "terrific" chance of pulling off an upset.
"The kid is destined," Katz said of Algieri in a Manny Pacquiao next fight news on Tha Boxing Voice. "He is catching [Pacquiao] at the right time and he is destined. [Algieri] is just one of those fighters that come along once and awhile, that no one thinks much of and obtain heights no one could even fathom."
Katz added that Algieri, who will look to grab Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title, said that the 30-year-old is one of the best conditioned boxers in the world, and it will be enough to put his 35-year-old foe into a lot of trouble.
"Probably the best conditioned fighter in the business today, physical conditioning, endurance, I don't think there is anyone who is better. He could fight 30 rounds if he had to," Katz said. "If I didn't know Chris Algieri, I would say he talks to good to be a fighter."
Meanwhile, boxing trainer Naazim Richardson also believes that Algieri will be a tough opponent for Pacquiao.
Richardson said in a Manny Pacquiao next fight news that the Filipino boxing icon cannot take Algieri lightly. He said that the Huntington, New York native could pull off an upset, but he still thinks that Pacquiao will be the favorite - mainly because of his experience in fighting in big bouts.
"I've always leaned towards experience and that's heavily favored for Pacquiao," Richardson said via On The Ropes Boxing Radio. "But Chris Algieri, we fought on cards with him, this kids conditioning is freakish and he never says die man, he really, really never says die and that poses a problem with a younger, fresher guy. But I lean towards experience; Pacquiao's experience should take over the fight and then find a way to get past Chris."
