Luis Carlos Abregu said in a Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri news that the former pound-for-pound king will run away with an easy win against his challenger in their upcoming fight on November 22 in Macau, China.
Abregu said in an interview with BoxingScene that while Algieri holds an unbeaten record, he sees no reason for Pacquiao to lose against his challenger, which is probably the reason why they picked the fight.
"I don't see any way he can beat him, I think that's why they chose Algieri," Abregu said.
Abregu, who holds an impressive 36-1 record with 29 knockout victories, was mentioned as a possible opponent for Pacquiao before his camp settled with Algieri.
When asked about Pacquiao's camp decision to pick Algieri, Abregu said that the Filipino boxing icon wanted an easy fight, reiterating that he is a dangerous opponent and would have a great chance of pulling off an upset.
"They didn't want to fight me, they considered me too much of a risk so they chose an opponent who is less difficult," Abregu said. "Some boxers want to earn a lot of money without fighting me, or rather, they prefer to fight ones who are better known but less risky."
In the same Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri news, Abregu also expressed disappointment about the fact that he is still unsure when he will return to the ring following his victory against Jean Carlos Prada in April. The 30-year-old only had one fight last year after sustaining a hand injury.
"It's been a long time and I'm a bit annoyed because I still don't have any news," Abregu said. "It's very difficult every day to train without knowing what's happening, or without knowing when I will fight. It hasn't been easy all this time. 'm just training to keep myself in good shape."
Abregu also revealed that he trained together with Lucas Matthysse before the latter's second-round knockout win against Roberto Ortiz earlier this month.
"It was good work, I worked with him and some other guys there, it helped me a lot," Abregu said of working with Matthysse in the Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri news. "Matthysse was ready to fight and I was able to be at his level, I was essential sparring for him at that point in his camp. It was the third or fourth time that I've worked with him."
