Subway is making its iconic footlong sandwiches more affordable for a limited time. Starting August 26, customers can purchase any footlong sandwich for $6.99 by using the promo code "699FL" on Subway's app or website.

This special offer will last until September 8, giving sandwich lovers 13 days to enjoy their favorite subs at a reduced price. However, add-ons like bacon or avocado will cost extra, according to USA Today.

Subway Launches Limited-Time Footlong Deal

This move is part of Subway's effort to attract customers amidst rising prices in the fast-food industry. Many fast-food chains, including McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and Taco Bell, are launching or extending value meal promotions to retain and attract customers wary of increasing costs.

Subway's new deal is described as being "as big as its iconic footlong sandwiches," offering significant savings compared to the usual prices, which can range from $10 to $14 for a footlong, not including extra toppings.

According to Fox Business, Doug Fry, President of Subway North America, highlighted the challenges faced by diners seeking affordable yet satisfying meals. "Our menu offers a wide variety of footlongs to suit every budget, and with this new deal, our guests can enjoy their favorite sandwiches at an excellent value."

In recent years, Subway has been expanding its menu and introducing new options to appeal to a broader range of customers. To cater to those who might find regular menu items too pricey, the chain has added snacks priced between $2 and $5. The addition of Sidekicks and Dippers is seen as a strategic move to boost revenue by attracting budget-conscious consumers.

Industry Challenges, Declining Store Count

David Henkes, a senior principal at Technomic, commented on this strategy, saying that Subway needs to make changes to improve its performance in the fast-food industry.

According to Technomic data, Subway has been lagging behind competitors in sales for sides and snacks, making these new offerings crucial for the brand's growth.

Subway has also embraced technological advancements by promoting its app for ordering and has expanded its global reach. In addition to these changes, Subway now offers freshly sliced meats instead of pre-sliced cold cuts, aiming to enhance the quality of its products.

Despite these efforts, Subway faces challenges, including a declining number of stores. In 2023, Subway closed over 400 restaurants in the United States, reducing its store count to the lowest it has been since 2005, with just over 20,000 locations. This reduction in the number of stores could impact the chain's ability to reach customers and compete with other fast-food giants.

With its new $6.99 footlong deal, Subway aims to draw more customers to its remaining locations and boost sales. By offering a variety of footlong sandwiches at a discounted price, Subway hopes to meet the needs of budget-conscious diners who are looking for value without sacrificing taste or quality.
