As August continues, Starbucks is making an early leap into fall by launching its 2024 autumn menu on Thursday, August 22, marking the earliest debut of its popular Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) to date.
Pumpkin Spice Latte Hits Starbucks Menu Earlier
This move comes amidst a challenging period for the coffee chain, which has seen a decline in store traffic and sales. The PSL, a long-standing favorite since its introduction in 2003, is expected to give a boost to the company's sales during the fall season.
The return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte is accompanied by a full lineup of fall-themed offerings, including the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, the Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai, and the Apple Crisp Oat Milk Macchiato.
According to CBS News, Starbucks is also introducing a new drink: the Iced Apple Crisp Nondairy Cream Chai. This beverage combines chai spices with creamy oat milk and a nondairy apple crisp cold foam, aiming to evoke the flavors of homemade apple pie.
Starbucks' New Bakery Items
In addition to these beverages, Starbucks is reintroducing several popular bakery items. Customers can enjoy the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin, the Baked Apple Croissant, and the Pumpkin and Pepita Loaf. A new treat this year is the Raccoon Cake Pop, featuring vanilla cake with buttercream and chocolate icing.
The decision to launch the fall menu earlier than usual may be a strategic effort to counteract recent sales declines, said USA Today. With Starbucks facing increased competition and evolving market conditions, the early introduction of seasonal items might help the company attract more customers and boost sales.
Starbucks' PSL, made with real pumpkin, espresso, steamed milk, and a blend of spices, is available in various formats: hot, iced, or blended. This year's fall menu also features new and returning items designed to enhance the autumn experience for Starbucks customers.
