Loui's Pizza in Hazel Park, Michigan, has recently been named the best pizza spot in the Midwest by Yelp, securing the top spot on the platform's prestigious 2024 Top 100 Pizza Spots list. This recognition highlights Loui's Detroit-style pies, which have delighted customers for nearly half a century.

The family-owned restaurant, located at 23141 Dequindre Road, was established in 1977 by Louis Tourtois, a former chef at Buddy's, another famous Detroit pizzeria. The Detroit News once honored Tourtois as "The King of Pizzas," and his legacy continues through Loui's Pizza.
Loui's Pizza has managed to surpass other well-known pizzerias in cities like Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Cleveland. Yelp's list also features 15 other Michigan pizzerias, underscoring the state's strong pizza culture.
According to MLive, one of these is Fredi The PizzaMan in Melvindale, which ranks 23rd and is considered Detroit's top pizzeria. This recognition came after a glowing review from the famous "one bite" Barstool Pizza review guy, who praised Fredi The PizzaMan as Detroit's best.
Other notable Michigan pizzerias on the list include The Filling Station Microbrewery in Traverse City, ranked 43rd, known for its wood-fired flatbreads, and Tawas Bay Pizza Company at 52nd, offering scenic views of the lake and delicious pies. Major Tomato in Allen Park, ranking 55th, has been a family-owned favorite since 2014, providing a cozy atmosphere with options for everyone, including vegan and gluten-free pizzas.
Pie Sci, ranked 14th, has locations in Detroit and Oak Park and is praised for its unique and customizable pizzas, including vegetarian and vegan options. Market 22 in Maple City, coming in at 18th, is celebrated for its Detroit-style pizza, crispy crust, and excellent service in a charming setting. Patellie's in Three Oaks, ranked 57th, is a must-visit for its standard 16-inch pizzas and slice-by-slice options in the scenic southwest region of Michigan.

Other Michigan pizzerias on the list include Charles & Reid Detroit Pizza in Traverse City at 76th, 112 Pizzeria Bistro in Rochester Hills at 78th, and Antoniou's Towne Square Pizza in Rochester Hills at 79th.
Yelp's list of the top 100 pizza joints in the Midwest showcases the region's diverse pizza styles, from Detroit-style squares to Chicago's famous deep-dish pies and St. Louis' thin, cracker-like crust.
According to USA Today, Tara Lewis, a trend expert at Yelp, emphasized the Midwest's crucial role in shaping US pizza culture, with options to satisfy every pizza lover. To determine the rankings, Yelp analyzed pizza establishments from states like Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and others, refining the list by reviewing terms and evaluating overall ratings and review volumes.
