Los Angeles Lakers Roster News & Rumors: Jeremy Lin Starting Point Guard As Steve Nash Struggles To Stay Healthy?

| By

Jeremy Lin has been performing well in preseason games and training camp, which might be enough for him to be named as starting point guard, Los Angeles Lakers roster news & rumors update.

Lakers coach Byron Scott said in an interview that they are seriously considering starting Lin at point in the upcoming 2014-15 NBA season, or even Ronnie Price instead of Steve Nash, who is struggling to get healthy.

"That is something I'm definitely thinking about it," Scott said in a Los Angeles Lakers roster news & rumors update via ESPN. "Is it in our best interest to start Jeremy or Ronnie [Price] or do we wait day by day, game by game? We'll play these last five preseason games out. We'll figure it out from there."

Nash will be playing in what could be the final season of his illustrious basketball career. The 40-year-old is the projected starter for the Lakers this season, but Scott is confident that the veteran playmaker will understand his decision should the first-year Lakers coach name Lin as their starting point guard for next season.

"I have no doubt in my mind if I went to Steve tomorrow and said, 'I'm going to start Jeremy, and the games you're available we're going to bring you off the bench.' He's such a professional that I don't think it will be a problem whatsoever. He just wants to help the team win as much as he can. That's not a concern of mine," Scott added.

Lin, who averaged 7.5 points to go along with 7.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in their first two preseason games, revealed that that he has been talking to Nash since training camp started.

The 26-year-old point guard said in a Los Angeles Lakers roster news & rumors update that Nash sounded like he wants to start and stay healthy this season, but he added that he will accept the role should Scott name him a starter over the two-time Most Valuable Player.

"Just talking to him, he wants to be healthy, he wants to enjoy what is probably his last year and I would want them for him as well," Lin said via Los Angeles Times. "But at the end of the day, whatever position [Scott] calls me to, or whatever it is, I'm going to do my best."
