NBA Trade Rumors 2014: Will The Boston Celtics Trade Rajon Rondo To Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks?

| By

The Boston Celtics have been that they want to keep Rajon Rondo, but the All-Star point guard is continuously being mentioned in several NBA trade rumors 2014 updates.

Zach Lowe of Grantland reported that the Boston Celtics will likely end up keeping Rondo for the entire 2014-15 NBA season, but it could be a risky move for them since the playmaker could become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

With the looming risk of losing Rondo for nothing via free agency next summer, Lowe wrote that the Celtics will continue entertaining trade offers for the 28-year-old point guard, but they will have to decide quick because the veteran's value is expected to decrease as next summer approaches.

In order to get the assets that they are looking in exchange for Rondo, the Celtics will have to find a taker for pass-first point guard early in the upcoming season, and Lowe said in his NBA trade rumors 2014 report that the Houston Rockets could be one of their possible trade partners.

"Houston is under pressure to win now, and if it starts slowly, (General Manager) Daryl Morey might swallow hard and meet Boston in the middle," Lowe wrote. "Rondo and James Harden make for an awkward fit, but talent tends to work itself out, and the Rockets are confident they can re-sign stars once they get them."

The Sacramento Kings are also poised to make a run at acquiring Rondo this season especially after losing last year's starting point guard Isaiah Thomas to the Phoenix Suns.

Lowe pointed out that Rondo could turn the Kings into a playoff contender, but the only way that they could get the former Kentucky standout is a trade this season because they won't have enough cap space to sign him outright when he hits free agency.

The Knicks have made it no secret that they will chase big-name free agents in the summer of 2015. Rondo is reportedly on top of their list, but they will face tough competition in next summer's free agency period.

Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders recently said in an NBA trade rumors 2014 discussion that there will "plenty of suitors" for Rondo next summer, which could force the Knicks to give up assets now to acquire the eight-year veteran in a trade.
