Cleveland Cavaliers Roster Rumors: Cavs Pursuing Roy Hibbert Trade; LeBron James Says Kyrie Irving To Play Big Role

| By

Cleveland Cavaliers roster rumors indicated that the already-loaded Cavs are looking to strengthen their line-up further as they are interested in acquiring Roy Hibbert from the Indiana Pacers.

Sports Talk host Tyler Spence confirmed on Monday that the Cavaliers have reached out to the Pacers about the possibility of striking a deal for Hibbert, who could become the rim protector the Cavs are looking for.

Spence said that based on the initial talks about the trade, the Pacers are reportedly asking for Dion Waters in the deal along with other players or assets from the Cavaliers.

"Following the Keith Bogans trade, the Cavaliers contacted the Pacers to inquire about Roy Hibbert," Spence said in a Cleveland Cavaliers roster rumors interview on HNGN. "The Pacers would want Dion Waiters in return, however, the players that would be involved are not fully known."

Spence also added that the deal could also include Brendan Haywood and a future first-round pick along with other fillers to make the deal work in terms of salary. It is still unknown at this point whether or not the Cavaliers will be willing to give up Waiters in the deal.

"Latest from a source was that Waiters, Haywood, and a 1st had been offered, however, they would need to add players or other teams to make salaries work," Spence added. "Cavs may be reluctant to give up Dion as well, so this deal is still far from imminent, but does have a realistic shot at happening."

Waiters, who averaged 15.9 points to go along with 3.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game last season, was mentioned in several NBA trade rumors last season, but the Cavaliers eventually decided to keep him.

The Cavaliers are one of the best teams on paper after re-acquiring LeBron James and getting Kevin Love in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

James will be new leader of the star-studded Cavaliers team, but the four-time Most Valuable Player said in a Cleveland Cavaliers roster rumors interview that he is willing to defer to Kyrie Irving in terms of handling the ball on the offensive end of the floor.

"I'll probably handle the ball a little bit, but this is Kyrie Irving's show," James said via ESPN. "He's our point guard. He's our floor general, and we need him to put us in position to succeed offensively. He has to demand that and command that from us with him handling the ball."
