Amir Khan expressed confidence in a Floyd Mayweather next fight interview that he and Manny Pacquiao are the two fighters who have the best chance to hand the pound-for-pound king the first defeat of his career.
In an interview with BoxingScene, Khan said that Mayweather should stop picking opponents who have no chance against him, reiterating that the unbeaten champion should decide to face him or Pacquiao.
"I feel he should think about fighting someone quick and explosive, someone who has a higher work rate than him and someone who is very accurate. That's what me and Pacquiao bring to the table," Khan said.
Khan, who won against Luis Collazo via a lopsided decision during their non-title fight in May, is being linked to Mayweather again after the latter kept her unbeaten record.
Mayweather, who improved to 47-0 with 26 knockouts, scored a unanimous decision win against Marcos Maidana on Saturday night in a fight where Floyd Jr. clearly dominated his Argentine challenger.
Khan has been lobbying for the super fight and he feels that he has the right to do so because even his former trainer, Freddie Roach, believes that he has the tools to defeat Mayweather.
"Even though I'm not with Freddie Roach, he still says things that I can beat Mayweather," Khan said in the Floyd Mayweather next fight news on BoxingScene.
Khan added that he is aware that fans are still calling for the mega fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao, but he feels that a Mayweather-Khan bout is a more realistic option.
"If the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather can't be made because of promotional deals, Amir Khan and Mayweather can get made because we're both signed with Al Haymon," Khan added.
When asked in the Floyd Mayweather next fight news about his fight plan should he land a bout against the Grand Rapids, Michigan native, Khan mentioned that maximizing his speed and power will be a key.
"You have to fight him at his own game, speed, explosiveness, power and accuracy. Don't make any mistakes, be slick and go back to the basics. When you try to hard you make mistakes. You have to stay calm and think in every round," said Khan, who holds a 29-3 record with 19 knockouts.
