Former world champion David Haye said in a Floyd Mayweather next fight interview that the pound-for-pound king should face Amir Khan in his next title defense instead of Manny Pacquiao.
In an interview with BoxingScene on Monday, Haye, a former two division world champion, said that the only fight that would make sense is a showdown between Mayweather and Khan.
Haye, a former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion, said that Khan is the only fighter who can match up with Mayweather in terms of speed, and that the Briton has the best chance to hand Floyd Jr. the first defeat of his illustrious boxing career.
"The only fight I really want to see is him and Amir Khan," Haye said in the Floyd Mayweather next fight interview. "I think they are the two fastest guys in the division and I really want to see them - speed vs. speed. It makes good sense. I would love to see that fight and so would a lot of others."
Fight fans are still calling for a showdown between boxing superstars Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, but Haye said that he is not as interested as before because Pacquiao is not the same fighter as he was several years ago.
"I was interested in the fight years ago," Haye said of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao super fight. "But now it wouldn't be very competitive. Back then I thought it would be quite competitive, but since Pacquiao has been knocked out so many times I think it would be too one sided."
In another Floyd Mayweather next fight news, Khan, who has been lobbying for a big-money fight against Mayweather, expressed confidence that he can defeat the 37-year-old, saying that Floyd Jr. is aging big time.
"This fight was a good fight, but you could see Floyd aging. I saw him get old overnight," Khan said. "His work rate is not there. You have respect how old he is, but the work rate is not there. The movement was not there either. He was getting hit with shots and his legs were going. You have respect Floyd, he's an old guy now."
Khan will return to the ring on December where a win could earn him a shot at Mayweather. The Bolton, England native almost got his dream bout earlier this year before Mayweather decided to face Marcos Maidana.
