Recent Manny Pacquiao next fight news indicated that the Filipino boxing icon is still willing to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a super fight in 2015. But will Mayweather finally decide to face Pacquiao?
Mayweather, who holds an unscathed 46-0 record, will defend his world titles against Marcos Maidana on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In a recent press conference for his upcoming fight, Mayweather insisted that winning against Maidana is his top priority at this point, but The Guardian reported that the pound-for-pound king still wants a fight against Pacquiao.
"As much as Mayweather has been trying to sell his rematch with Marcos Maidana here on Saturday night as the only fight that matters to him, he has not lost sight of the endgame; he still wants Pacquiao, but on his terms," The Guardian noted.
In another interview, Mayweather said that he is unsure if he will be the opponent of the Filipino boxing icon in Manny Pacquiao's next fight, but he sounded like he is open to the idea of staging the super fight before hanging up his gloves.
"I can't say what the future holds," Mayweather said via BoxingNews24. "But as for right now Arum and Pacquiao are trying to sell tickets for his fight against (Chris) Algieri. I'm just here for the Maidana fight. If the other [Pacquiao fight] presents itself, I can't say what can happen in the future. All the stories that you've heard are totally false."
In a Sports Illustrated Manny Pacquiao next fight news, the former pound-for-pound king reiterated that there is a serious discussion to arrange the long-proposed mega fight against Mayweather.
"That fight could happen next year, the formal negotiation is ongoing so hopefully the fight will happen because that's what the fans want," Pacquiao said. "Finally there's a formal negotiation."
However, Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum clarified that Pacquiao was referring to the ongoing talks between HBO, who carries Pacquiao's fight, and CBS, who owns Showtime, the pay-per-view carrier of Mayweather bouts.
"All I've said and all I know is that I was consulted and as a result of talking both to CBS and HBO, I put them together and they arrived at a method to do the fight, and I subsequently had conversations with both of them," Arum said via Tha Boxing Voice.
