Doc Popcorn awarded a family of husband, wife and son three locations in the Los Angeles area.
Sam and Mary Sanchez with their son Eugene recently opened their first Doc Popcorn franchise in Stonewood Center shopping mall in Downey. The family is looking for more locations to open stores.
Originally from the Philippines, the family arrived in the U.S. in 1976 and first worked in real estate. The wife Mary was forced to retire after being diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2011. After coming back to work and entering remission, she's forced to resign when her employer relocated to another state. Instead of retiring, Mary, together with her family, decide to franchise Doc Popcorn.
Sanchez said she doesn't want her illness to paralyze her and her family. "For many years, my husband and I contemplated having a business of our own. After doing some research, we were convinced that Doc Popcorn was the best choice. It is fun and easy to operate; we love the product and enjoy going to work every day working alongside our son," said Mary.
Rob Israell, co-founder of Doc Popcorn, said, "We are truly honored to have this amazing, hard-working family join our franchise system and give them the tools and support they need to own and operate their own Doc Popcorn business."
The Sanchez family's franchising of three locations is part of the company's growth expansion in the U.S. and overseas. Doc Popcorn has 90-unit growth expansion strategy that includes stores opening in Los Angeles, West Covina, Ontario, Lakewood, and San Francisco.
Known for hand-crafting a variety of specially flavored fresh-popped popcorn, Doc Popcorn started franchising its business in 2009. Inc. 500 list ranks the popcorn at 59th spot as one of the fast growing snack franchising business in the country. It already has more than 90 locations including in countries such as Japan, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
