Under The Dome Season 3 Gets Green Light: Does It Deserve Renewal, See What Entertainment Critics Say About The Show

| By

Wondering why there's no Under the Dome Season 3 spoilers ever since the show aired its last episode more than two weeks ago? Well, it is because there was no confirmation whether it will be continued. Good news Dome fans, as Under the Dome season 3 has just received a green light from CBS. The Stephen King novel-based TV series was one of two shows renewed by the network. The news was first broke by the Entertainment Weekly's Inside ETV based on a statement by CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler.

"CBS is sticking with its sci-fi series. The network has renewed Under the Dome and Extant, EW has learned. Additionally, freshman drama Reckless has been canceled. There's no decision yet on the fate of Unforgettable," the statement said.

"Under the Dome recently closed its second season, which averaged 11 million viewers and a 2.7 in the 18-49 demographic. Extant, meanwhile, ended its first season with 5.4 million viewers and a 1.0, actually up from its penultimate episode, but a far cry from the 9.58 million and 1.6 who tuned in to watch Halle Berry as an astronaut in the series premiere. The series averaged 8.64 million and 1.7 throughout its first season. The low-rated soapy legal drama Reckless averaged roughly 4 million viewers and 0.6 during its first season."

Expect a lot of Under The Dome Season 3 spoilers after this news, especially with the fact that the show left a lot of questions in its finale.

While many fans kept their hopes up for series renewal, others were skeptic, especially with the way its ratings and number of viewers declined episode by episode. Some entertainment critics are also not kind on the show.

TV.com wrote that the finale was a "community theater written by a grandmother who'd downed a cocktail of antidepressants and gin martinis. It was not primetime entertainment, it was torture."

For IGN, "Under the Dome closed out its second season in probably the best way it could have considering its long-standing tradition of idiocy. "Go Now" was, for the most part, a basic one-story episode - streamlining the plot into a simple "everyone out of the dome" plan. "

Screenrant also have some cruel words for the show.

"Over the course of season 2, the issues of quality and consistency that have plagued the series since its inception have arguably worsened. In fact, instead of addressing any of the many concerns of its storytelling or characterization, Under the Dome has appeared intent on exacerbating those problems as much as possible, hurling one kerosene-soaked log after another onto a towering inferno of contempt."

Well, based on how the finale turned out, looks like the group of Barbie (Mike Vogel), Julia Shumway (Rachelle Lefevre), Junior (Alexander Koch), Big Jim (played by Breaking Bad's Dean Norris) and Sam (Eddie Cahill) is off to a new stranger world. That could mean more actors. If it can lure more popular actors, it might have a chance to save itself. Let's just watch out for more Under The Dome Season 3 spoilers in the coming days or weeks.
