Windows Skipped ‘Windows 9’ - Upcoming ‘Windows 10’ Looks Like ‘Windows 7’ Rebooted

| By

Finally, Microsoft has release a preview and the name of its upcoming operating system - Windows 10.

Yes, you heard it right. Microsoft is due to release the Windows 10 in 2015. You might be wondering what happen to Windows 9? There isn't one. Microsoft has decided to skip one number.

During the presentation of the Windows 10, The Verge observed that the Windows 10 is actually has more in common with Windows 7 than the current Windows 8 or 8.1. Microsoft presenters enumerated the many changes and improvements introduced in the Windows 10.

But in the end, Windows 10 has the interface and controls very much similar to Windows 7. Of course Microsoft added a few updates that have worked well in Windows 8. Users can expect the Snap Mode, Modern Style applications and other enhancements from the current Windows.

A universal Windows app store will also be available to all PCs, tablets, cellphones and televisions powered by Windows.

According to the Verge report, Windows 10's design is based on the old Windows 7 start menu desktop version rather than the Start menu design of the current Windows 8. Those who have not upgraded to Windows 8 will feel more at home using the Windows 10.

It seems that the strategy Microsoft is pursuing right now is to convince those who have not yet upgraded to Windows 8 to finally upgrade to Windows 10. To help them ease in their transition, Microsoft choose to return the old controls back rather than continue using the new design and controls of Windows 8.

Many of the companies that continue to use Windows 7 or even XP are not willing to give up on their OS because they are already familiar with it. Microsoft was proud when it released the Windows 8. It had a sleek design and a new interface. However, most business companies were unwilling to shift to Windows 8 since cost of upgrading and training personnel is simply too expensive.
