In response to Tracy Morgan's lawsuit, Walmart issued a statement last Monday that, in effect, put the blame on Tracy Morgan and his companions. WalMart lawyers said that the injuries sustained by them are due to the refusal to wear seatbelts while riding on their limousine. The lawyers also said that another third party may have been involved in the accident.
Tracy Morgan issued a statement in reply to WalMart's accusation, "I can't believe WalMart is blaming me for an accident they caused." The actor adds, "My friends and I were doing nothing wrong."
Last June 7, Tracy Morgan and his companions were riding in a limousine when a WalMart truck hit their limo from behind. The driver of the truck Kevin Roper pleaded not guilty. Roper is facing several charges that include assault by auto and vehicular homicide.
As a result of the accident Tracy Morgan suffered critical injuries. The comedian has sustained several broken ribs; his nose and leg were also broken. Two others of his companion were also injured. But the auto accident turns to tragedy as Morgan's comedian friend James McNair died in that accident.
The National Transportation Safety Board issued an initial finding that Kevin Roper was driving well above the speed limit. The finding also found out that the WalMart driver is almost at the end of his shift. There have been allegations that Roper has been awake for more than a day when the accident happens.
WalMart later issued another more pacifying statement. The second statement said that the store chain is committed to resolving the situation. WalMart justified the earlier statement by saying that it is their right to issue any facts and legal defense for their company. It said that WalMart intends to encourage discussions that will lead to amicable settlements among the parties involved.
Tracy Morgan has not specified the amount of damages he is seeking in the lawsuit, he filed against WalMart. He thanked his fans for the support they have shown him.
