Thousands Join Exclusive Social Network – Goodbye 'Facebook', 'Ello' Gaining Popularity

| By

Ello and Facebook are both social networking sites but that is the only thing they had in common. Unlike Facebook, Ello is an exclusive social network site, wherein, entry to Ello is through invitation by an existing member only. Ello does not carry any advertisements on its site and also promised its users that it will not trade their data to anyone.

Ello was founded by Paul Budnitz, owner of bike shop store in Vermont. He originally created the exclusive social network site for him and 90 of his friends. Soon friends of his friends are asking to be in the exclusive social network site.

In contrast to other social network sites such as Facebook, the site does not have much, with regards to aesthetics. It also gives an initial impression that its controls are not easy to use.

This weekend, the exclusive social network site suffered a Denial of Service Attack or DDoS. But it quickly recovered and is currently up and running again.

Paul Budnitz admits that Ello is still in its beta stage and some technical difficulties are to be expected. He said, "We're learning as we go but we have a very strong tech crew and backend." He also adds, "It's all being fixed as quickly as we can."

Ello is being regarded as an anti-Facebook social network site because it offers a kind of service that is opposite to that of Facebook. Budnitz is "flattered" by the tag but he does not consider Ello as a rival to Facebook.

Instead he sees Facebook as a platform that sells ads while Ello is a network for friends. He said that Ello will make money through the sale of special features that will be offered in the site. He explained that the sale of such features is similar to an app store.

Budnitz invites members of this exclusive social network to take a peek of the pages that are under development so far.
