Klay Thompson is happy that he will continue playing with the Golden State Warriors, while Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler wants to sign a contract extension, NBA free agents 2014 rumors indicated.
Thompson was mentioned in trade rumors this offseason when the Warriors were negotiating for trade centered on Kevin Love.
The Minnesota Timberwolves were willing to trade Love to Golden State, but they want Thompson to be included in the deal. The Warriors eventually decided to keep the sharp-shooting guard, prompting the Timberwolves to deal love to the Cleveland Cavaliers instead.
When asked about the trade talks involving him in the summer, Thompson, who will be entering his fourth season in the league, said that he is happy to stay at the Bay Area.
"I'm so happy to be back in the Bay," Thompson said via Contra Costa Times. "All I know is I'm still here, and I've got a Warriors jersey on, and I'm ecstatic."
The 24-year-old guard, who averaged 18.4 points to go along with 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game last season, will be playing in the final year of his contract. He could become a restricted free agent next summer, but Thompson said that he is not worrying about his contract situation.
"I just let (agent Bill Duffy) and the front office sort it out," Thompson said in the NBA free agents 2014 rumors update. "I know if I just keep my mind on hoops and staying healthy, I know everything else will take care of itself."
Meanwhile, like Thompson, Bulls guard Jimmy Butler could also become a restricted free agent after the 2014-15 NBA season.
But while the Bulls are already loaded with talents, Butler said that he is not looking to go elsewhere, reiterating that he wants to stay in Chicago. He is also convinced that the Bulls will give him a long-term deal, but he is not yet thinking about it as he is focused on their upcoming campaign this year.
"I want to be here," Butler said on ESPN's NBA free agents 2014 rumors update. "I think the Bulls want me here. So however long it takes, as long as we get it worked out. Basketball is my main focus, not really the contract situation."
Butler, the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, averaged 13.1 points to go along with 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season.
