Target is getting ready for the busy holiday shopping season by hiring around 100,000 extra workers. This is the same number of seasonal employees it hired over the past three years.

The announcement was made on Monday (September 16), and the new workers will help with things like picking up orders, stocking shelves, and helping customers in stores. If you want to apply for a seasonal job at Target, you can start doing so on September 25 by visiting their website, according to CBS News.

Target to Add 100,000 Seasonal Employees

Even though Target is hiring many extra workers, the holiday shopping season might not be as busy as usual. A report from Deloitte says that holiday sales are expected to grow at their slowest rate in six years. Despite this, Target is planning to offer lots of special deals and new products to attract shoppers.

Target will have many holiday gifts priced under $20, and thousands of items will cost less than $5. Popular brands like Disney, LEGO, and FAO Schwarz will bring out over 1,000 new products for the holidays. Also, from October 6 to 12, Target is holding a special event called Target Circle Week. During this week, Target Circle members can get special deals on holiday and fall items.

Right now, Target is also running a car seat trade-in event. If you bring in an old car seat, you can get a 20% discount on a new car seat, stroller, or other home items until September 28.

Companies Prepare for the Holiday Season

Other big stores are also getting ready for the holiday season. Walmart will give extra hours to its current workers and hire more people as needed. Last year, Walmart hired about 40,000 seasonal workers. Bath & Body Works will hire 30,000 seasonal workers, just like it did last year. Aldi, a grocery store, is hiring 13,000 extra workers for the holidays, according to Fox Business.

Retailers are also trying to attract customers with more discounts and promotions. Target lowered prices on many popular items earlier this year to boost sales. This is important because a lot of stores make most of their money during the holiday season.

A recent survey found that many people plan to start their holiday shopping by Halloween. However, some people will spend the same amount as last year, some will spend more, and others will spend less.

Target's plan to hire so many seasonal workers and offer special deals shows that they are preparing to make the most of the holiday season, even with the expected slowdown in sales.
