The United States game servers for "Call of Duty: Ghosts" and "Destiny" were brought down by a hacker group called the Lizard Squad. The hackers did not give any specific reason why they targeted the Activision servers for "Call of Duty: Ghosts" and "Destiny." But the hackers issued an earlier tweet saying, "We're predicting a lot of mad gamers this weekend."
It is suspected that the Lizard Squad probably employed the distributed denial of service attack or DDoS. This kind of digital attack has caused the "Call of Duty" and "Destiny" servers to crash through sheer large numbers of requests. Game developer Bungie issued a tweet informing gamers about the situation. The tweet said, "We're aware of [the] connection issues affecting portions of the Destiny player base we're working to correct the problem. Please stay tuned." However, this particular tweet has already been deleted. When sought for comments, Activision declined.
"Call of Duty: Ghost" is a first person shooter, single or multiplayer game that was launched in 2013. The game's primary developer is Infinity Ward while its publisher is Activision. "Call of Duty: Ghost" is the sixth installment developed by Infinity Ward but it is the tenth installment in the Call of Duty game series. "Call of Duty: Ghosts" is available in several gaming platforms such as Windows PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and Wii U. The storyline is set in an alternate reality in which the countries in the Middle East were destroyed in a nuclear attack. This paves the way for the rise of the South American Federation where its member nations are among the last of the oil producing countries.
"Destiny" is also a first person shooter, single or multiplayer game that had been launched earlier this month. The game is developed by Bungie and described that "Destiny" is an open world set in a "mystic science fiction". "Destiny" is available in several gaming platforms that include the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4.
