Kroger is facing backlash for overcharging customers. One shopper, who experienced issues for several weeks, took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their concerns. This customer warned others about being overcharged by Kroger multiple times.
Kroger Silent on Overcharging Concerns
A Kroger customer recently posted on his X account about ongoing issues with overcharges at the retailer. The shopper shared his frustration, noting that he had tried to resolve the problem with store employees but had not succeeded. He also mentioned difficulty in finding a corporate contact number.
The shopper asked if anyone had a contact name and number he could reach out to. Shortly after, he tweeted details of the overcharges, warning others to check their receipts. He explained that he was overcharged on seven items, totaling about $20 on a $67 purchase during his last shopping trip.
Kroger responded a few hours later, apologizing for the oversight and requesting the customer to send a direct message with his shopper's card number, name, and email address to resolve the issue.
Amid rising prices and ongoing shortages, Kroger states it is committed to reducing stress for shoppers. During the January National Retail Federation (NRF) 2023 Retail's Big Show, Rodney McMullen, chairman and CEO of The Kroger Co., emphasized the company's efforts to support customers.
According to Best Life, McMullen noted that the company is acutely aware of inflation's impact on its shoppers, saying that about half of their customers are under significant financial strain as wages have not kept pace with inflation.
Kroger is focusing on new technology to help ease this burden. McMullen highlighted that the company is constantly working to use technology to simplify shopping, inspire meal planning, help stretch budgets, and provide flexible grocery delivery options.

Kroger Faces More Overcharging Complaints
However, this recent complaint is not an isolated incident. The U.S. Sun revealed that another Kroger customer reported being overcharged by $100 on a grocery delivery. The frustrated shopper took to Facebook to warn others about her experience, calling it "frustrating and infuriating."
She contacted Kroger for a resolution, but the company only offered her a $75 in-store credit. The shopper argued that Kroger had taken $100 without authorization and spoke to four supervisors for almost an hour. Despite her efforts, the best offer she received was "20 cents in fuel points."
Kroger informed her that it would file an escalation report but couldn't provide a timeline for its resolution, suggesting that the report would likely be denied.
The shopper expressed relief that she had enough funds to cover the unauthorized charge; otherwise, she would have faced overdraft fees in addition to the overcharge.
In August 2023, an Ohio woman expressed outrage after being charged nearly $2,800 for a $282 grocery order. Jill McCormick, a working mother of a daughter with disabilities, relies on the Kroger app for her grocery shopping, as reported by ABC 7.
However, her usual $282 order resulted in a charge of $2,783.25 for items she did not order or receive. McCormick described her reaction as one of panic, needing to act quickly without knowing where to begin.
Kroger's Help Center website posted that customers facing similar issues with Kroger can contact for help through various channels. They can chat online with a Kroger representative for immediate assistance by launching the chat feature on the company's website.
Customers can fill out the form on the Customer Comments page for less urgent issues, and a Kroger representative will reply as soon as possible.
