Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles Closes After Three Decades

"Pasadena, thank you for 30 wonderful years!" the notice in the restaurant window states, hinting at a possible future return. "We are searching for another upgraded Pasadena location."

Pasadena Now Weekndr explains that the closure of Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles in Pasadena is the latest hurdle for a chain that has grappled with financial woes.

In 2018, East Coast Foods, the parent company of Roscoe's, negotiated a deal to settle debts while managing to keep its doors open following a bankruptcy declaration in 2016.

This bankruptcy was a response to a $3.2 million judgment from a discrimination lawsuit against the company, which it later appealed. At that time, court documents revealed that East Coast Foods was in debt to creditors of about $27 million.

According to Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles website, it was founded in 1975 by Harlem native Herb Hudson. Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles quickly became a Hollywood icon, celebrated for its unique combination of chicken and waffles.

Its fame spread rapidly, thanks to early celebrity endorsements like Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, and Redd Foxx. Over the years, figures such as Snoop Dogg, Shaquille O'Neal, and even President Obama have frequented the restaurant, adding to its legendary status.

Today, visitors to Roscoe's original Hollywood location can still experience its rich history and vibrant atmosphere.

A third fan shared their frustration after trying to contact the restaurant, only to find there was no response, labeling it a "bummer" if the restaurant has indeed closed for good.

According to its website, patrons can find Roscoe's in several key areas, including Hollywood, South LA, Long Beach, Pasadena, the area near Los Angeles International Airport in Inglewood, Anaheim, and La Brea Avenue.

These locations ensure that fans of Roscoe's distinctive blend of chicken and waffles have plenty of options to enjoy their favorite meals.
