Aldi Offers Jobs and Higher Pay

Aldi, Britain's fourth-largest supermarket, is looking to hire people for its stores in Peterborough and Whittlesey. The company, which already employs 400 people in the county, is seeking candidates of all experience levels for full- and part-time roles.

Peterborough Today reports that this hiring drive coincides with Aldi's recent increase in hourly pay rates for store colleagues across the UK. Starting this week, store assistants will see their pay rise from £12 to £12.40 per hour, with those within the M25 earning £13.65 per hour, up from £13.55.

This marks the second pay increase for Aldi employees this year, bringing the total investment in pay to £79 million. According to Kelly Stokes, HR Director at Aldi UK, the latest pay increase underscores the company's commitment to being the best-paying retailer.

Stokes also noted that colleagues play a crucial role in Aldi's growing popularity, and this pay raise is a way to recognize their hard work across the UK.

According to Aldi's website, the discount store has reaffirmed its commitment to providing equal opportunities for all its employees and job applicants. The company values diversity and emphasizes the importance of treating everyone fairly and respectfully.

Aldi adheres strictly to legal standards, ensuring there is no discrimination against individuals based on age, gender reassignment, sex, disability, race, color, nationality, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, civil partnership status, employment status, pregnancy, maternity, religion, or belief.

This policy underlines Aldi's dedication to maintaining an inclusive work environment where everyone is treated individually.

In February 2024, Aldi announced a major investment exceeding £550 million to expand and enhance its stores and distribution network throughout the UK, per Retail Gazette UK.

The supermarket chain plans to open new stores and upgrade existing ones, as well as improve its warehouses, to support continued growth across the region. This investment is expected to create over 1,500 new jobs nationwide, with additional opportunities in existing supermarkets, corporate offices, and distribution centers.

This £550 million allocation is part of a broader £1.4 billion investment planned over the next two years to bolster Aldi's operations in the UK.

Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, highlighted the company's ongoing efforts to meet increasing customer demand. "We're continuing to attract new customers who come for our low prices but stay for our award-winning quality and commitment to British sourcing," he stated.

Hurley also noted that despite the company's growth, there are still regions in the country underserved by Aldi. "Our expansion in 2024 aims to address these gaps, ensuring more consumers have access to an Aldi store," he explained.

Aldi operates over 1,000 stores across the UK, with plans to expand further in 2024 and beyond. This expansion is part of Aldi's strategy to increase its market share, which stood at 9.3% last month, as it competes with traditional supermarkets.
