Redditor Shares Surprising Costco Return Experience

A Reddit user, @eld101, shared a surprising encounter on the subreddit r/Costco, discussing their unexpected return experience.

The Redditor, who has been a Costco member for over a decade, noted that they had only returned one or two items during that time. They purchased a camera system from Costco last April but didn't start using it until the beginning of this year. After installing six of the eight cameras, @eld101 found the picture quality poor and "unusable."

The shopper could return the system despite the significant time since the purchase. "One of the girls at the return counter quickly spoke with what I think was a supervisor, and they approved the return," the Redditor explained.

Redditor @eld101 mentioned that they revisited the store to verify the return policy before disassembling the camera setup and received the same confirmation as before.

Despite their initial skepticism, @eld101 returned to the store with the cameras and all the necessary components. They outlined the return process, which included presenting their membership card and selecting a method for the refund.

They also noted that an employee inquired about the problem with the item, entered their explanation into the system, and they could leave the store in roughly three minutes.

Other commenters on the post corroborated that such a seamless return process is commonplace at Costco. One person commented that this level of service is typical for Costco returns.

Another commenter highlighted the store's flexible approach, mentioning that their sister could return a half-eaten apple pie without facing any questions.

Costco offers a risk-free 100% satisfaction guarantee, allowing members to cancel and refund their membership fees anytime if dissatisfied. For merchandise, Costco promises satisfaction on every product sold with a refund of the purchase price, albeit with some exceptions.

Electronics, such as TVs and major appliances, can be returned within 90 days, while diamonds over 1.00ct require original paperwork and undergo authenticity checks.

However, Costco does not accept returns on cigarettes or alcohol where prohibited by law, and certain products like tires and batteries come with a product-specific limited warranty.

Custom-made items and special orders, except for warranty repairs, cannot be returned.

Non-refundable items include airline and event tickets, gold bullion, and gift cards. Items can be returned at any Costco warehouse, and online purchases may also be returned in-store or initiated through Costco's website.

Meanwhile, The U.S. Sun has highlighted Costco's exceptional and lenient return policy in its previous reports.

One customer expressed astonishment upon witnessing another shopper return partially consumed products. "I had NO idea you could return everything," the customer noted, detailing their surprise at the variety of items accepted for returns.
