Costco is famous for promising complete satisfaction with every purchase, but now, some shoppers are pointing fingers at others for misusing this generous policy.
Customers have observed outrageous returns being made at the store, including half-eaten meals, sofas, and even TVs.
Costco Returns Spark Reddit Outrage
According to The U.S. Sun, the Reddit community r/Costco has become a hotbed for discussions about the most bizarre returns witnessed at the store, both successful and unsuccessful.
Costco is known for its 100% satisfaction guarantee, which allows customers to return any item at any time for a full refund for any reason. This policy has led to some customers pushing the limits of what can be considered reasonable.
One Reddit user shared an eye-opening story about their visit to Costco. While heading to the food court, they noticed a customer returning two whole turkey carcasses, opening boxes of stuffing and cranberry sauce, and using silverware and plates.
This was essentially the remains of a large meal, presumably for 20-30 people, which had been consumed.
The shopper described the scene as "absolutely nuts." Despite the obvious signs of use, the customer was given a refund after expressing dissatisfaction with their purchase to the service desk associate.
This incident is just one of many outlandish return stories shared within the r/Costco community, highlighting some shoppers' extreme interpretations of Costco's return policy.
Costco's generous return policy recently came under scrutiny when a member labeled another shopper "a psychotic human" for attempting to return a 22-year-old TV. Since 2007, Costco has set a 90-day return limit on electronics.
However, items purchased before this policy change may still be eligible for returns under certain circumstances.

The limits of this policy were tested further when another customer attempted to return a 15-year-old sofa. When their request was denied, the frustrated shopper left the old sofa outside the store, with images of the discarded furniture quickly spreading across social media.
One outraged Costco member commented on the situation, expressing a desire for the store to cancel the membership of the person who abandoned their furniture. "I hope Costco cancels their membership for ditching their crap at the store," they said, reflecting the community's frustration with abuse of the return policy.
Costco's Return Policy: Generous but Limited
According to Taste of Home, Costco is renowned for providing great deals and customer experiences, often leaving shoppers eager to boast about their savings with receipts in hand.
However, a few always push the boundaries of Costco's famously generous return policy.
A quick look at Reddit reveals the extent of some returns: soiled mattresses, decade-old boomboxes, empty wine bottles with headache complaints, half-eaten cakes, and 10-year-old Kirkland Signature sneakers. In one notable case, a customer even swapped the barcode on an old laptop for a new one to facilitate a return.
Costco's return policy is indeed liberal, but it has its limits. Business Insider highlighted a case where a woman attempted to return a printer purchased in 2010. Her request was initially denied, and after several exchanges with Costco's corporate office, she managed to return the printer, but at a significant cost-her membership was revoked.
Costco has clarified that while they strive to accommodate returns, they will not hesitate to cancel memberships if they are repeatedly abused. This policy underscores the balance Costco tries to maintain between customer satisfaction and the prevention of policy exploitation.
