PetSmart Revamps Loyalty Program, Introduces Premium Tiers for 67 Million Members

| By

PetSmart, a popular pet retail company, has updated its customer loyalty program, which 67 million people use. The new changes mean that shoppers must spend at least $1,000 a year to get the best benefits. This revamp aims to offer more to those who spend more.

New PetSmart Program Offers Tiered Rewards

PetSmart has launched an updated version of its loyalty club, now called the Treats Rewards program. This enhanced program is designed to provide shoppers with various benefits accessible through different membership levels.

Joining Treats Rewards is free, and members can start accumulating points immediately. They can also enjoy personalized perks and exclusive member-only prices when they shop in-store.

The program is structured into four tiers, each requiring a specific annual spending amount to qualify. The tiers include 'Member' for those who spend up to $499, 'Bestie' for between $500 and $999, and 'Very Important Pet Parent' for over $1,000.

All members will receive personalized offers and enjoy benefits from the existing loyalty program, such as early access to sales and new product launches. They will also benefit from special in-store pricing that is available only to members.

Additionally, members will receive a gift on their pet's "gotcha day" or birthday.

For every dollar spent on merchandise or services, members will earn 10 points. This structure rewards loyal shoppers with more significant benefits as they spend more with PetSmart.

PetSmart Revamps Loyalty Program to Meet Customer Needs

PetSmart has redesigned its loyalty program based on customer feedback. The company says its customers wanted a simpler and easier-to-understand system that offers tiered benefits to reward their loyalty. They also sought redemption options that fit smoothly into their shopping routine.

According to PetSmart, 93% of its transactions involve a Treats Rewards account, highlighting the program's popularity among shoppers. This update aims to enhance the shopping experience by aligning more closely with customers' desires.

PetSmart has updated its Treats Rewards program, making it easier for members to use their points. Once members collect 1,000 points, they can get $2 off their next purchase at the checkout.

Additionally, members can earn points by shopping, filling out their membership profile, and donating to PetSmart charities.

For those who prefer shopping from home, PetSmart offers its members free shipping on online orders of $49 or more. This move is part of PetSmart's effort to add value to its loyalty program and make shopping more convenient for its customers.

PetSmart, which operates over 1,500 stores nationwide, not only sells pet merchandise but also provides services like grooming, training, boarding, Doggie Day Camp, and veterinary care.

This week, however, PetSmart isn't the only major retailer to revamp its loyalty program. Albertsons has also relaunched its "Albertsons for U" program, introducing several new features.

Albertson program members can now earn points on everyday purchases and choose when to redeem them for various rewards. Every dollar spent on groceries earns one point, and every 100 points can be redeemed for approximately $1 off at the checkout.

These updates by PetSmart and Albertsons reflect a growing trend among retailers to enhance the benefits of their loyalty programs to attract and retain customers.
