A major grocery chain with over 400 locations nationwide is set to shut down several of its stores soon temporarily.
Maverick announced it will close stores in Colorado for one week on two separate occasions, April 23 and April 30.
Maverick Closes Stores in Two Phases
Maverick will close several of its popular hot food outlets for a week. The affected locations include Parker Road and Green Valley Ranch Boulevard stores in Denver, Belleview Avenue in Littleton, and Arapahoe Road in Centennial.
In a second wave of closures, the company will also halt operations at its stores on Tower Road and Santa Fe Drive in Denver, Colfax Avenue in Golden, and Clydesdale Parkway in Loveland.
This series of closures follows Maverick's recent acquisition of the Kum & Go gas and convenience store chain. Since the deal was finalized, Maverick has rebranded 30 stores, replacing the well-known Kum & Go name with its own.
This change has sparked frustration among some shoppers who favored the original brand.
Maverick now operates 800 stores, primarily in the Midwest. The recent rebranding from Kum & Go to Maverick is affecting customers significantly.
As part of the transition, customers must switch their loyalty program memberships from Kum & Go's &Rewards to Maverick's Adventure Club to earn points at the newly branded stores.
Maverick's website states, "Your points and rewards from &Rewards will not transfer to an Adventure Club account. However, you will maintain your &Rewards account and can still use it at any Kum & Go locations that remain open."
Additionally, Maverick has discontinued the made-to-order food service available at Kum & Go locations. Customers can use a tracker on Maverick's website to determine when specific stores are scheduled to switch to the new branding.

Maverik announced that this expansion will bring the company's workforce to approximately 14,000 team members.

Social media users have strongly reacted to the merger between Maverik and Kum & Go. One user lamented the changes with a dramatic plea: "Look! Look what they did to my boy!!" Another user humorously proposed a collective buyout: "If we all pool our money together, we can buy out Maverik and rename all of their gas stations to Kum & Go just to spite those squares."
Some comments discussed the strategic elements behind the merger. One user pointed out, "Kum & Go thought they could expand into Utah, but they ran up against the superior juggernaut, Maverik, and immediately got bought out."
Another speculated about the motives: "They were afraid of losing market share, and the Krause family had wanted to sell for years."
