The countdown is on for the opening of Chick-fil-A's unique digital-only restaurant, a first for the fast food giant, where customers must use its mobile app to order. This new type of Chick-fil-A is getting ready to welcome diners on the Upper East Side of New York City.
Chick-fil-A Sets Digital Store Launch Date
Chick-fil-A has announced March 21 as the opening day for its groundbreaking location. This new spot is unique because it will only accept mobile pickup orders and won't have a dining area or an option to order on-site.
Instead of a traditional setup, the restaurant will introduce "pathways" for easy pickups. These paths will allow customers using the mobile app and delivery drivers to quickly and easily collect their pre-paid orders without hassle.
Additionally, both pickup routes will feature a status screen. This allows drivers and customers to see when their food is ready, making for a smooth and efficient experience.
Chick-fil-A is set to carefully watch how its new digital-only restaurant performs, considering whether this innovative approach could be a hit in other areas, especially where people often order food on their phones. The company shared in an email that this move is part of a bigger plan to meet the rising demand for mobile ordering.
This venture is the latest in Chick-fil-A's experiments with technology to improve customer experience. Last year, the company updated its mobile app with geofencing technology, which has helped cut down waiting times by alerting the restaurant when a customer is nearby. This update also gives customers a heads-up on when their food will likely be ready.

Furthermore, Chick-fil-A expanded its test of mobile pickup lanes to more than 300 locations in September, enhancing mobile orders' convenience, even though the new spot in New York City won't include a drive-thru option.
The new restaurant's design features a walk-up style within a 3,500-square-foot space. While it includes a standard kitchen and an area for preparing orders, it lacks a dining room. Instead, there's a small area at the front for customers to pick up their orders.
To keep everyone informed, the restaurant will be equipped with active status boards, showing the real-time status of mobile and delivery orders, ensuring guests and delivery drivers know exactly when their orders are ready.
Chick-fil-A Launches Digital-Only Restaurant
This innovative location will cater exclusively to delivery and carryout orders placed through the Chick-fil-A App or online.
The restaurant employs geofencing technology to notify the kitchen when customers are approaching. This ensures meals are ready precisely when customers arrive. Inside, active status board screens will display order readiness for delivery and mobile pickups, providing real-time updates.
Although the new establishment does not feature a seating area for dining, Chick-fil-A's renowned hospitality will shine through every aspect of the digital experience. Customers and delivery drivers can expect to receive their orders quickly and with friendly interaction, embodying the brand's commitment to service.
Jared Caldwell, already a Chick-fil-A Owner-Operator in the area, will oversee the new digital-only location. Caldwell's leadership aims to address the surge in digital ordering and present new ways for Chick-fil-A to serve its customers in a rapidly evolving market.
