Sam's Club to Speed Up Shopping with New Tech
According to The Motley Fool, Walmart's CEO, Doug McMillon, has revealed that Sam's Club is set to introduce groundbreaking technology to reduce checkout wait times significantly.
McMillon highlighted the launch of a new scan-and-go system that is already being tested in some Sam's Club locations.
"At Sam's Club U.S., we're rolling out new exit technology that allows our members to simply walk out after scanning their items and completing the transaction on their phone, further enhancing their shopping experience," he explained.
This move is part of the store's effort to use technology to make shopping smoother and more enjoyable for its members.
McMillon shared the company's vision of becoming a retailer driven by its people and empowered by technology, aiming to make life easier and more affordable for its customers.
"Last year, we started to think of ourselves as a retailer led by our team and powered by the latest technology. Our goal is to help people save money and live better lives," McMillon said.
He further explained, "By focusing on our employees, core values, and culture, we can use advanced technology to enhance how we serve our customers and members, improving their shopping experience and making our company stronger."

Sam's Club Innovates with Scan-and-Go Tech
At the CES 2024 event in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sam's Club's chief merchant, Megan Crozier, introduced a game-changing technology that's set to revolutionize shopping. The new scan-and-go feature allows shoppers to scan items with their phones as they pick them up, eliminating the need to scan everything at once at the checkout.
This method streamlines the shopping process and lets customers pay through their phones, receiving a digital receipt instantly. Crozier announced this technology will be implemented in 600 Sam's Club stores across the U.S., making the checkout process smoother by removing the traditional step of showing a receipt when leaving the store.
Since Sam's Club operates on a membership basis, with specific terms including receipt checks upon exit, this advancement represents a significant shift towards a fully digital payment experience. It means customers can skip the regular checkout lines, making their shopping experience much quicker.
Crozier emphasized the company's commitment to customer satisfaction: "At Sam's Club, we care about every moment a member spends with us, so eliminating even the few seconds it takes to scan a receipt at the exit is worth it."
This move is a clear step towards enhancing efficiency and convenience for Sam's Club members.
