| By

Young people in Lamoille and Chittenden counties have a brand new spot for shopping and hanging out, thanks to the efforts of two local women.

The place, named Reframe, is a stylish thrift store that also serves as a cool new gathering place for teens in Jericho. It's open for visitors on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

This initiative uniquely combines affordable shopping and a friendly social space for teens.

Jericho Store: A New Teen Haven

In Jericho, Vermont, a unique spot called 'Reframe' has become a favorite among local teenagers.

A once-vacant building near Route 15, owned by the United Methodist Church, has found new life. Laura Merena, recognizing the need for teen-focused services in her community, saw potential in this space. She observed that teenagers often feel overlooked and lack places to socialize and shop affordably.

Teaming up with Amy Davis, both parents who raised children in Jericho, they aimed to address the limited options for local teens to hang out and purchase items within their budget.

This high-end thrift store, initiated by Merena and Davis, is more than just a shopping destination - a thriving youth hangout. Influenced by her kids' challenges in finding affordable clothing and friendly space, Merena transformed a church-owned building into this vibrant spot.

By September, Merena and Davis had transformed their space into a warm and inviting environment for teens. Furnished with a comfortable rattan chair and adorned with plants by the windows, their establishment offers more than just shopping.

It's where young adults are encouraged to spend time, making it feel more like a community teen center than a typical thrift store.

With generous support from the community, including donations of clothes and supplies, 'Reframe' is now a cozy, welcoming place. Featuring a variety of clothing at accessible prices and even distributing gift cards to students in need, the store emphasizes inclusivity.

It offers a much-needed space for teens in rural Jericho to shop, relax, and socialize.

The store also features a kitchen with snacks and activities, making it a popular spot for teens to spend time with friends. The support from the community has been vital, with locals volunteering and helping with various tasks.

The ultimate goal is to support local students, with plans to start a college fund and gift cards for those in need. While aimed at teens, Reframe welcomes everyone in the community to contribute and enjoy its offerings.

Reframe has become a symbol of multi-generational cooperation. Davis shares how local church members and retirees contribute to the store, assisting with painting and electrical work.

Beyond being a teen-focused store, Reframe actively supports local students, offers gift cards, and plans a college fund for Mount Mansfield Union High School students.

Merena emphasizes that Reframe welcomes everyone to contribute, shop, or spend time there. All profits are reinvested back into the store, reinforcing its community-centric approach.

"This is everybody's store," Merena declared. "Not just ours."
