Barboursville Target Closure Raises Safety Worries Among Locals
The prolonged shutdown of the Target store in the region is causing inconvenience for shoppers and safety concerns in Barboursville. A resident of the Meadowcreek subdivision, located just outside the village limits of Barboursville, shared her apprehensions about the hill slip near the Merritt Creek Farm shopping center, where Target is situated.
Delores Esque, residing at 5 Meadow Creek, initially felt alarmed but became calm as more information became available. "At first, we were quite worried, but now we understand the situation better," she stated.
Esque mentioned that an engineer friend inspected the land behind her house, which is not directly adjacent to Target, and assured her that the landslide unlikely impacted her property.
However, Esque still holds concerns for those living nearer to the slide. She noted that she hadn't been informed of any potential need to evacuate her home as of Thursday. "We haven't been told about any possible evacuations," she commented.
On Thursday, Mayor Chris Tatum of Barboursville stated that all parties are working together effectively to resolve the slip and utility issues. "Our main focus is removing any safety risks," he mentioned.
He expressed confidence that Target and its engineers are ensuring nearby homes remain safe. The Mayor emphasized the town's commitment to helping the store reopen quickly.
