Best Buy Aids Workers as Multiple Stores Set to Close
A spokesperson for Best Buy assured that they are fully committed to helping all employees find new roles in nearby stores or within the company. This comes as the Kansas City location and the Apple Valley store in Minnesota prepare to close on March 2.
Notably, this is not an isolated event. Last March, the company announced plans to close between 20 and 30 stores. Inside the Kansas City store, a poignant sign reads, 'It's not goodbye, it's see you around,' reflecting a hopeful sentiment amidst the closures.
For customers, Best Buy ensures continued service. They can locate other nearby stores through a QR code and use the company's online offerings.
A Best Buy spokesperson informed The Star on Wednesday that the store's closure is part of their routine process of evaluating stores when their leases are up for renewal.
The spokesperson emphasized their commitment to assisting all affected employees in finding new positions at other nearby stores or within Best Buy.
Customers can still visit the Best Buy near Liberty at 8500 N. Flintlock Road.
The Northland store, closing its doors, has been a key part of the Tiffany Springs market since its opening in 2008 at the junction of Interstate 29 and Missouri 152 Highway.

Best Buy Expands: Remodels and New Stores Planned
Retail Dive has reported that Best Buy is closing some stores and has ambitious expansion plans. The company intends to remodel eight stores and open ten new outlets.
Best Buy announced in March 2023 that its revenue for the fourth quarter was $14.7 billion, showing a decrease of almost 10% compared to last year. The company attributes this downturn partly to consumers' economic and inflationary pressures.
This led to a drop in its domestic revenue, which fell to $13.5 billion, again nearly 10% lower than the previous year. Despite declines in home theater systems, appliances, and mobile phone sales, there was growth in the gaming and tablet sectors.
For the quarter ending January 28, Best Buy's domestic gross profit stood at $2.9 billion. However, the company's operating income decreased to $597 million, a significant drop of almost 26% from last year. Additionally, comparable sales saw a decline of 9.3%.
In their financial outlook for the fiscal year 2024, Best Buy anticipates generating revenue between $43.8 billion and $45.2 billion. However, they expect a 3% to 6% decrease in comparable sales, with capital expenditures around $850 million.
During an earnings call, CEO Corie Barry mentioned that the economic conditions in fiscal 2024 might lead to another challenging year for the consumer electronics industry. Barry also suggested that 2023 might represent the lowest point in the recent decline of technology demand.
