Costco is gearing up to open a new warehouse in Shenzhen, China, this January, marking its sixth location in the country, as announced by CFO Richard Galanti. Additionally, in early 2024, we will launch two new Costco Business Centers.

The first is scheduled to open in Southfield, Michigan, in January, followed by another in Anchorage, Alaska, in February. February will also welcome a new Costco warehouse in Daytona, Florida.

For Costco enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the opening of more new locations, details will be revealed in the upcoming months. This expansion means that many shoppers who currently don't have a Costco nearby might soon find a popular retailer opening in their area.

Galanti shared this update during the call, where Costco reported a notable increase in quarterly sales, reaching $56.7 billion - a 6.1% rise from the previous year. Additionally, revenue from membership fees saw an increase of over 8%, following a stringent policy against member card sharing.

He emphasized the company's successful growth in the US and reiterated their intention to speed up international openings. This expansion strategy reflects Costco's commitment to extending its global footprint and servicing a broader customer base.

Costco's warehouses come in a range of sizes, spanning from 80,000 to 230,000 square feet, with an average size of approximately 147,000 square feet.

Notably, there are plans for a new location in Fresno, California, projected to be the largest in the company's entire fleet, surpassing 241,000 square feet. This expansion reflects Costco's commitment to catering to the diverse needs of its customers and communities.

In a recent earnings call, Costco made significant announcements about its plans. CFO Richard Galanti shared that, at present, there are no plans to raise the membership fees. Currently, the Gold Star Membership is priced at $60 per year, while the Executive Membership, offering additional benefits, stands at $120 annually.

However, it's important to note that while fees remain stable, Galanti hinted that a fee increase is a matter of time, not certainty. The possibility of a fee hike is something to watch for in the future as Costco continues to assess its pricing strategy.

A valid membership is required to shop at Costco's warehouses, except for prescription purchases. Non-members can use a Costco Shop Card for in-store access, but members must buy it. Shopping on Costco.com incurs a 5% surcharge on most items, excluding prescription drugs.
