In a significant announcement, Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc.'s former CEO introduced his successor, Dan Funk. Smith expressed his unwavering confidence in Funk's ability to lead the company into a promising future.

"Dan Funk is the right choice," says Smith.

David Smith enthusiastically endorsed Dan Funk as the ideal candidate to assume the CEO role. Smith's assurance in Funk's leadership skills reflects his confidence in the bright days that lie ahead for the company.

He said, "I am confident in the bright future ahead for the company under Dan Funk's capable leadership."

Funk began his journey with AWG when he took on the role of president at AWG subsidiary Valu Merchandisers Co. (VMC) in October 2012. Over the next two years, he worked diligently at VMC and took on more significant responsibilities.

These included overseeing center store operations, merchandising and marketing, and supply chain management. His most recent position was Chief Operating Officer (COO), overseeing the cooperative's day-to-day operations.

Before joining AWG, Funk had various roles in the food retail and wholesale sector, working for independent and chain grocers.

Funk expressed his honor at leading AWG into the future and his commitment to building upon the solid foundation laid by David Smith. He plans to work closely with the talented leadership team, membership, and board of directors to foster innovation and continued growth within the organization.

AWG's board chairman, Barry Queen, thanked David Smith for his exceptional leadership. Smith's guidance had been instrumental in AWG's success, and his retirement was well-deserved.

The board is confident that Dan Funk is the right person to carry forward AWG's legacy of success, and they eagerly anticipate collaborating with him in his new role.
