Nordstrom has announced a major focus on its Nordstrom Rack brand in 2024, which includes opening new stores. This famous discount brand offers excellent deals and expects more customers looking for budget-friendly shopping options.
Nordstrom Expands Rack Stores, Including First-Ever in Nebraska
This year, Nordstrom will concentrate on growing its Nordstrom Rack outlets, with plans to open four new stores. These upcoming locations include Houston, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska; Noblesville, Indiana; and Franklin, Tennessee.
Set to open before fall, these stores will range from 24,000 to 34,000 square feet, as stated in a recent press release.
Notably, while Nordstrom Rack is already present in Texas, Indiana, and Tennessee, the store in Omaha marks Nordstrom's first venture in Nebraska.
Gemma Lionello, President of Nordstrom Rack Stores, expressed excitement about joining the Omaha community. "We look forward to being a part of the Omaha community and serving our customers with an amazing offering of great brands at great prices," Lionello said.
She highlighted the brand's eagerness to expand its presence in the area and introduce more people to Nordstrom's offerings.
Lionello also pointed out the convenient services available at the new location. She mentioned, "Customers can take advantage of our convenient services such as online order pick up from Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, and they can make returns easily."

Nordstrom Rack is gearing up to launch its biggest store among its four new locations, a 34,000-square-foot outlet in Houston's Meyerland Plaza. This new store will be in a prime retail area, sharing space with well-known stores such as Target, J.C. Penney, Ross, Marshalls, and Old Navy.
In their announcement, Nordstrom highlighted its significant presence in the state, with eight Nordstrom and 23 Nordstrom Rack stores. This expansion has created over 4,000 jobs, showcasing the retailer's growing impact in the region.

Nordstrom Rack Struggles Despite Low Prices
Despite its reputation for affordability, Nordstrom Rack hasn't been resonating with consumers recently. In the second quarter of the 2023 financial year, the brand saw a 4.1% drop in sales compared to the same period in the previous year.
This decline raises questions about why Nordstrom focuses on its discount brand, Nordstrom Rack, instead of expanding its full-price Nordstrom stores.
One reason might be that the regular Nordstrom stores are experiencing an even steeper sales decline, with a 10.1% drop year-over-year in the second quarter of 2023.
Another factor could be the recent closure of several Nordstrom locations. Last year, the company shut down 15 stores, including a flagship store in San Francisco, California.
Nordstrom has shown a solid commitment to the various communities it serves. In the past four years, the company and its customers have contributed nearly $2 million to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the United States, a vital retailer partner.
This substantial donation aids in adult mentors' recruitment, training, and engagement. The funds also support meaningful mentorship activities, such as preparing for job interviews, teaching skills like tying a tie, assisting with homework, and fostering valuable connections between mentors (Bigs) and their mentees (Littles).
