Nifty Fifty's, a popular diner chain, is preparing to launch its latest branch in Abington Township at the start of the new year.
This eatery, famous for its bright neon signs and a menu filled with breakfast items, burgers, and milkshakes, plans to have a preliminary opening on January 6. According to the Glenside Local, this will be followed by a big celebration for its grand opening on January 8.
Nifty Fifty's: Preparing for Upcoming Abington Launch
The upcoming Nifty Fifty's restaurant at 1140 Old York Rd. has been renovated for several months. Originally planned to open last fall, the launch was postponed twice due to construction delays and hold-ups in securing local permits.
In early December, the restaurant shared a photo on Facebook, giving a sneak peek of the building's ongoing work. Chan Nuth, the owner, spoke with Glenside Local, mentioning that he is busy hiring and training staff, gearing up for the much-anticipated opening.
The restaurant's location, situated close to Abington's junior and senior high schools and the Abington Jefferson Hospital, has been a topic of interest. While there were initial concerns about parking during the planning phase, Nuth assured that the diner would have about 30 parking spots.
However, he clarified that customers would not have the option to park on the neighboring side streets.

Nifty Fifty's: New Chapter at Historic Abington Site
According to a report by Glenside Local, the intersection of Guernsey Avenue and Old York Road, a spot with a rich history of various retail shops and businesses, is set to welcome a new tenant. Nifty Fifty's, a diner with a 1950s theme, will open at 1140 Old York Road in Abington's Ward 11, marking the eighth outlet of the growing franchise based in Ridley Township.
While the franchise itself is thriving, there's still a sense of uncertainty among residents. Abington Commissioner John Spiegelman shed light on the community's apprehension towards urban development. He mentioned that developers often buy multiple properties to construct mixed-use buildings, which include residential spaces above and retail outlets below.
Such developments are profitable but have raised concerns among suburban residents about the potential rise of larger, skyscraper-type buildings in the area, a hot topic for several months.
Spiegelman also noted the particular interest in Nifty Fifty's due to its strong local following.
For example, the chain's Warminster branch is consistently busy and has become a destination for many.
The location at 1140 Old York Road has been a launchpad for various businesses in the past, ranging from pizza and coffee shops to LabCorp and Jimmie John's, yet each has ultimately moved on. This turnover set the stage for a new business to step in.
Chanthol Nuth, a franchisee of Nifty Fifty's, seized the opportunity and purchased the property in July, ready to embark on this new venture at a site steeped in local history.
