In a significant development in 2021, Applegreen, an Irish company with a vast network of convenience stores, acquired the leases for service areas along a major highway, incorporating Chick-fil-A among other brands. According to a New York State Thruway spokesperson, Applegreen's 33-year contract mandates daily hot and cold food availability at each station, despite Chick-fil-A's Sunday closures.
Chick-fil-A will be present in less than half of these Thruway service areas. Each location will have alternative food options and a convenience store operating all week, with the busiest stations offering up to three additional food services. This arrangement ensures continuous service availability for travelers, accommodating Chick-fil-A's unique operational schedule.
