Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is scheduled to face Joshua Clottey on December 6. And if he wins against the Ghanaian, Canelo said in a recent boxing news that he is willing to face Miguel Cotto, Gennady Golovkin or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Among the fighters that he mentioned, Cotto is reportedly the favorite to get a fight against Canelo, but Alvarez insisted that anything can happen until a fight contract is sealed.
"I'm willing to fight anybody," Alvarez said via BoxingNews24. "The Cotto fight isn't a done deal yet, and there are others who fight on HBO that fans want to see, Gennady Golovkin, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The fight with Chavez is a good fight to make in Mexico or anywhere else."
Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya also confirmed that Cotto will definitely be a future opponent for Alvarez, but the Hall of Fame boxer insisted that they will focus on Canelo's fight in December before thinking about a possible big fight in May next year.
"The whole world is talking about Canelo with Cotto, but we would have to talk about that after December," De La Hoya said in a boxing news on BoxingScene.
But while Canelo and De La Hoya remain non-committal about the possible fight against Cotto, the Puerto Rican's adviser, Gabriel Peñagarícano, is confident that the highly anticipated fight will eventually happen.
Cotto's camp previously turned down an offer to face Alvarez in March because they believe that Alvarez is not yet ready to headline a pay-per-view event, which is not the case now because Canelo has proven his ability to draw big crowd.
"Miguel is interested in big fights. And the big fights have a name called pay-per-view," Peñagarícano said in a boxing news. "Back when this fight was first discussed, it was perhaps too early. Canelo had never headlined on pay-per-view. Now he's already had two pay-per-views and they yielded decent results. If a fight [between Cotto and Canelo] would happen now it would be very successful."
Cotto, who was offered $10 million to face Alvarez earlier this year, is coming off a dominating victory against Sergio Martinez to win the World Boxing Council middleweight title.
