Starwood Hotels & Resorts Expands in Latin America

Starwood Hotels & Resorts, one of the world's leading hotel and leisure companies opens additional locations in Latin America after significant revenue from the area last year.

The company also announced Victor Vazquez as its new Vice President of Development and Acquisitions for Latin America.

Vazquez will oversee the company's ambitious development plan in Latin America.

The newly appointed VP had 20 years of experience in promoting and managing hospitality brands. He worked as a General Manager at city-center, resort properties in the U.S.

Latin America remains to be strong foothold of the company proven by the record year of openings in the area 2013, according to Jorge Giannattasio, Chief of Operations and Global Initiatives for Latin America, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Increasing demand from investors and developers helped bolster the brand in Latin America, especially its specialty select segment.

The company holds an existing record of 17 hotels under Starwood's third largest mid-scale brand, the "Four Points by Sheraton and Aloft" in Latin America, with 10 new hotels on their way.

The company is expected to have an expansion rate of 60 percent over the next three years.

Seven new Four Points Hotels are planned to be put up in the Latin America in the next three years.

Mexico, the company's seventh largest market worldwide and largest in the region, continues to be the frontrunner location for the company. It is currently home to Four Points Queretaro. Three additional hotels are slated to debut in different locations including Saltillo, Cancun and Puebla.

Colombia is another target for the Starwood hotels, as the company is planning to open two hotels in Bogota and Barranquilla this year, and another in Cuenca, Ecuador coming Sept. 2017.
