Dunkin' Donuts will talk with suppliers and purchasing teams to materialize its commitment to obtain 100 percent sustainable palm oil from the mills by the end of 2015.
The bakery giant also plan to get the palm oil directly from the plantation itself in 2016.
The company will team up with different Non-profit groups to find a way to materialize its vision of sustainable palm oil supply.
Dunkin' Donuts recipe include a mixture of different plant oils like palm oil, soy and cottonseed oil.
Despite the company's massive use of palm oil, it has supported a campaign against planting palm trees in rainforests and peatlands since 2012.
"Sourcing even limited amounts of palm oil irresponsibly can contribute to deforestation, loss of natural habitats and other environmental and human rights concerns," as quoted by Christine Riley Miller, Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for Dunkin' brands.
According to Miller, the company has set guidelines for suppliers regarding Dunkin' Donuts' plan to get palm oil without hurting people or the environment.
"As part of our overall commitment to being a socially responsible company, Dunkin Brands is focused on finding sustainable business solutions that meet the needs of our guests and our franchisees, and that benefit our communities and the planet," Miller added.
Dunkin' Brands has put out several rules that suppliers need to follow.
Firstly, the suppliers must not produce palm oil taken from high carbon stock forests and high conservation value areas and peat areas.
Also, no burning in preparation of land or in development,ptogressive reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Lastly, the suppliers must respect and no exploitaion of people and communities,supporting the Univrsal Declaration of Human Rights.
By March 1, 2015, Dunkin' Brands will develop a system to identify where it gets its supplies by formulating and implementing a plan to locate its different international suppliers.
