Ben and Jerry's Pays Tribute To Bob Marley Legen Album With Ice Cream Flavor

| By

Ben and Jerry's will launch a Bob Marley-inspired ice cream flavor to pay tribute to the 30th anniversary of the icon's 'Legend' album.

The flavor is called 'Satisfy My Bowl,' which has a banana ice cream flavor base with caramel and cookie swirls, mixed with chocolate chips emblazoned with peace signs. Camilla Bishop coined the name of the flavor after winning a contest conducted by Ben and Jerry's earlier this year.

According to the website, proceeds of the tribute will go to 1Love Foundation, a youth empowerment programme in Jamaica. It aims to continue Marley's legacy changing the world through music. They said that the tasty treat continues to support Marley's vision of a fairer world.

"To mark Legend's 30th anniversary, we're celebrating our father's legacy of bringing people together and using music to drive social change through a sweet partnership with Ben & Jerry's," said Cedella Marley, of the 1Love Foundation and daughter of the iconic musician.

Bob Marley is a Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter who started a reggae revolution with his music. He was known for mixing his musical style with his spirituality. He supported the Rastafari movement, a kind of Ethiopian-Hebrew spirituality that became popular in the U.S. in the '30s. The Legend album is a compilation of Bob Marley's and his band The Wailers' greatest hit singles. Rolling Stones ranked the album as the 46th greatest albums of all time, out of the 500 on the list.

They will introduce the ice cream flavor in a concert entitled The Legend Session in the UK in October. The 500ml tub of Satisfy My Bowl will hit the stores in Autumn of 2014 in the UK, the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway, and not in the U.S.

However, there's already a petition online asking Ben and Jerry's to bring the flavor in the United States. The petition is close to reaching its goal of 5,000 signatures.
