The railway company will continue to provide its services between Kent, London and parts of East Sussex until June 2018.
Southeastern, part of Go-Ahead group of companies, has invested £70 million to provide for better customer information systems, extra workforce and maintenance to different stations and trains.
Claire Perry, Southeastern Rail minister deemed the renewal of contract to be a "fresh start" for the company.
Perry stated that Southeastern will continue to deliver excellent service for the passengers for the next three years of their contract, which includes more seats on improved trains, better service stations and travel. Perry promised to give more attention to the needs of travellers, especially the London and South East.
The contract will reportedly add services to the railways including 95,000 seats and an effort to propagate the use of "Oyster cards", plastic cards that will hopefully replace paper tickets being used by the railway.
The government has put in £6.5bn for Southeastern, Network Rail and other operators to renovate the London Bridge station as part of its Thameslink programme. It is expected for the project to be finished by 2018.
Other enhancements to be done in the railways include installation hourly high-speed device service via Gillingham, Ramsgate, Dover, Ashford, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate to improve connections along the railway route between London, north and east Kent.
Another improvement would be a peak-time Hastings Business Express service to provide rapid travel into London, saving up to 10 minutes on travel time.
New direct services are expected to be arranged between Maidstone East and Blackfriars, as well as Sheerness-on-Sea and London Victoria.
Aside from the Oyster Cards to be introduced in St. Pancras and Stratford International, the railway will invest in new digital display screens at key stations and tablets to given to staff for better service updates and travel planning advice.
Extra services will be provided during the evening and on weekends between Dartford and London Victoria, as well as extension of opening hours at Cannon Street to entertain additional queries and services.
David Brown, Go-Ahead chief executive is optimistic about the plans of Southeastern and emphasizes to improve services of the railway for the customers and local communities.
