Mcdonald's will reportedly bring 'McBrunch' in its menu to boost sales.
Mcdonald's spokeswoman Lisa McComb confirmed that the fast-food has filed a federal trademark registration for the term "McBrunch" in July, according to a report by fast-food industry blog BurgerBusiness.
As to whether the company will indeed be offering a new brunch program, the spokeswoman said "We routinely file intent to use trademark applications as a regular course of business," stated McComb. "We can't share details at this time as to how the trademarks may or may not be used," she added.
Scott Hume, editor of the blog "BurgerBusiness" stated that Mcdonald's had already applied for the trademark in 2001, but did not push through with the application.
Mcdonald's global same-restaurant sales have reportedly suffered a decline of 3.7 percent in August, while 2.8 percent decrease was evident in the U.S.
"McBrunch" would reportedly stretch the time breakfast items are going to be available to noon or 1 p.m.m stated Hume.
Competition posed to be a problem for Mcdonald's as fast-food companies such as Taco Bell and Starbucks are continually offering new breakfast items in their menu.
Meanwhile, suggested offerings that can be cooked up by the fast-food giant would reportedly include a "Massive McMuffin," which includes two sausage patties, bacon, egg, cheese and ketchup on a toasted English muffin. Other suggestions are "McMuffin Fresh Chicken" which is crispy breaded chicken, spicy cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and mild sauce on toasted muffin and lastly "McMorning," a meal containing pork patties, potato fritters, bacon, melted cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce and special sauce.
All these food items are already being sold in New Zealand, Germany and Croatia, respectively.
On a similar note, another fast-food giant, Burger King, has already tested out a brunch offering in its menu back in 2010, according to Hume. The menu included a ciabatta breakfast sandwich offered in Florida and Massachusetts.
