Chick-fil-A commemorates death of restaurant founder

| By

Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy, 93, died early Monday morning-several of the restaurant franchise's stores around the country have already began to commemorate his death.

In particular, store supervisor Michael Hill, working from a Mobile, Alabama chain, mentioned the companies owners will plan a commemoration at their particular store, Alabama.com reports.

"I think it's a good thing he started Chick-fil-A," 19-year-old Melonye Seals, a Mobile resident, told the site. "I like how they close on Sundays."

Cathy was recognized in 2002 for publishing his book "Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People," where he discussed entrepreneurial experiences and business advice.

In recent years, the company has also faced a series of criticisms for its conservative stance on abortion rights and gay marriage. In July 2012, the company released a statement addressing their position on same-sex marriage.

"Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena."

Funeral services for Cathy are yet to be announced. The specific cause of his death also remains unknown.
