Chevron announced on Tuesday that it will continue its third-annual "Fuel Your School" initiative and branch out into New Orleans and other South Louisiana communities, KATC Lafayette News reports.
The energy company's program is aimed at providing up to $500,000 in school supplies and other education-related materials for students, as well as teachers.
"We're proud to once again bring the Fuel You School program to public schools across Louisiana," Chevron official Mike Illanne said in a statement, according to the news site.
"This initiative supplies classrooms with interactive tools that help get students excited about learning. It is part of Chevron's on-going commitment to science, technology, engineering, and math education in our area."
Chevron launched the program three years ago in response to the continually degrading conditions experienced in the South Louisiana region, which is still recovering from hurricane-induced damage. The area is also well-known for having under-funded school districts that often run low on educational materials for classrooms.
The "Fuel Your School" initiative has financed 17,163 classroom projects and impacted over 900,000 students last year alone, the website also reports.
