Users wanting to try Google Glass before buying can call Google and have Glass shipped to their homes.
The only catch is that the trial is simply a fashion tryout, since the Glass devices that would be shipped are not actually usable.
Los Angeles Times reported that Google would send select users trial kits with Glass in four different colors and available frame styles to help them decide before buying.
"We've heard from potential Explorers that they'd love to be able to try Glass on at home before committing to purchasing it. As a result, we're doing outreach to a small group to see how this approach works," LA Times quoted a Google spokesperson.
To place the order, users will have to call Google, fix the time for the next call and also make another call to provide the shipping address.
PC Magazine said Google would hold $50 on users' credit cards until the devices are returned. This also makes sure users don't hold onto the gadgets for too long.
Most importantly, the gadgets are not functional. Reportedly, the Glass devices Google would be shipping are those returned by other Explorers. The USB ports on these devices have been destroyed, making it impossible to charge the device. However, PC Mag stated that the devices come with very low battery levels.
"The program is meant mostly as a fashion experiment," PC Magazine said. "It allows users to see which Titanium Collection prescription frame best fits their face, and which color--Charcoal, Tangerine, Shale, Sky--is most suitable."
Examiner said Google's try-out-before-purchase offer to select users comes after its hugely successful one-day sale where it invited users to join the Google Glass Explorer program by paying $1,500 for the device.
"Though the company did not reveal just how many units were sold during the sale, all of the spots made available in the Explorer Program were filled," Examiner stated.
