Selfie App, Shots, Has 1 Million Users and 75 Percent of Them are Teenage Girls

The fact that selfies are popular is well known. But just how popular they are was pointed out by Shots, a selfie app for iPhones, that recorded 1 million downloads in just five months.

According to a CNET report, Shots launched on iPhone in November, but has nearly 1 million users; most of them are teenage girls.

"Seventy-five percent of the users are females under the age of 24. On the whole, roughly 75 percent of the application's users are active on a monthly basis, with average time spent in the app totalling 20.53 minutes per person. Each account also uploads, on average, 2.4 photos per day," CNET quoted the company saying.

Venture Beat said Shots wants to encourage users to share positively and cut down negative sharing, often seen on social networking sites. Shots does not allow users to post comments, it said.

According to CNET, Shots allows users to respond with a "reply shot", which unsurprisingly is a selfie.

"All members can reply to the selfies they find in their stream with a shot of their own, but the original poster will be alerted to the reply only if the photo commenter is a person they follow on the application," CNET said.

Co-founder and CEO John Shahidi stated that Shots reduces the anxiety that young people experience when sharing on the Internet by allowing its users to respond only through selfies and not comments.

To keep photos authentic, Shots allows users to only change exposure levels and does not provide any filters. According to Venture Beat, Shahidi said, "We're focused on quality content. And the content is real, authentic photos."

Pointing to its sources of funding, Venture Beat said Shots has received $ 2.6 million in seed capital. The San Francisco based company is said to employ six people but includes an impressive list of celebrities like Justin Bieber.
