Ford announced recall of 435,000 vehicles Monday to fix rusted frame parts and seats, USA Today said.
The recall comes on the heels of other Detroit auto majors General Motors and Chrysler group announcing massive recalls since the start of this year.
The report said sub frame rusting in Ford Escapes 2001 through 2004 models can cause a control arm to separate and hinder steering control. The problem has been linked to one crash but no injuries.
"The SUVs were originally sold or registered in 20 states and Washington, D.C., where salt is used to clear snow and ice from roads. Six Canadian provinces also are included. Dealers will install a reinforcement brace to fix the problem," ABC News said.
It further said that the vehicles were made at Kansas City assembly plant between October 1999 and December 2003, and at Ohio assembly plant between May 2003 and January 2004.
Connecticut, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, Delaware, Maine, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont, Indiana, Michigan, New York, West Virginia and Washington, D.C, are the states where recall will be effected, ABC mentioned.
In Canada, vehicles sold or registered in Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador are being recalled.
An additional 49,000 Ford vehicles including Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, Escape and C-Max from 2012 and 2014 have been recalled for faulty seats. Economic Times said that seat-back frames which have not been welded will be fixed through the recall.
In a contrasting development, the company announced that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded Ford Transit Connect Wagon the highest safety rating.
"The 2014 Ford Transit Connect Wagon has earned a five-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the government's highest possible overall rating," the company said in a statement while adding that last year the European version of Transit Connect Wagon, known as Tourneo Connect, earned a similar rating from the European New Car Assessment Program.
